Hello Internet people, I am back with another blog.
I have just been emailed the information for where i’m going to live. Drum roll please. It’s the Macquarie University Village. I was super excited to hear this because they sound amazing. I was hoping that this is where I would live, and low and behold it is. The reason that I really wanted to live here is because the students that live there get their own bedrooms, have king sized beds, and ensuite bathrooms. That is better than any college dorm I’ve seen. So yes, cheers for that. Now, because I am obsessive, I google mapped the shit out if it. I looked to see what stores are nearby, what restaurants are nearby, what the entertainment is like, and most importantly, what’s the best way to get to my friend Victoria in Sydney. Now the program that I was going with originally claimed that Macquarie university was 30 minutes outside of Sydney. That is a lie. To get to my friend and the awesome night life, I will need to take the bus and train, or just the train for over an hour. That’s the equivalent of me going to Poughkeepsie every weekend (about). I just say this to let those of you who be thinking about what University you want to go to while abroad, that Macquarie is a little far. However, I will choose to look at the distance as an adventure, and an opportunity to truly learn the Sydney transportation system (Yay Positivity!)
What I really wanted to tell you guys was that I am now online window shopping at Woolworths (the supermarket). As I said before, I google mapped the shit out of my apartment. The supermarket is in front of the mall, which is about a five minute walk from the entrance of the University, but a 23 minute walk from my apartment (according to google maps). Now if this was Ithaca, that would be a problem. As it isn’t Ithaca, it’s not a problem because the weather will be nice in Sydney. Taking a 46 minute walk every time I want to do groceries isn’t that bad. Think of how fit i’ll be.
Anyway, the reason that i’m shopping at a grocery store online is because i’m trying to budget. I’m currently “buying” 2 weeks worth of food, and seeing how much that comes out too. Then i’m going to convert it to american money and see exactly how much I should really be budgeting for groceries while I am in Australia. Ideally, I would like to have enough money to take vacations while in Australia, and to leave Australia with awesome memories, and enough money to pay the rent in the summer. I find that to be hilarious. In conclusion, an average month’s worth of groceries will be about 200-300 dollars. That is not that bad. I’ll do an update and let you guys know if I found that to be accurate. Fun fact: a paw paw is a papaya.
Thank you for reading this!
Bye everyone!
